Doctor Who Movie

damalur linked to an article that talked about the possibility of a Doctor Who movie. Though we probably wouldn't get to see it in its theater big screen glory in the US, I still think it's an awesome idea. Of course, I immediately thought that Tennant should be in it (because I love him as the Doctor so much and don't know how I'm going to like the new one, though I'm hoping.) But then I read this comment from Adam Wright which said:

If this new movie goes ahead, it will be the 4th Doctor Who film (I believe). I think they should show the 8th to 9th Doctor regeneration (Paul McGann to Chris Eccleston) at the start, then base the movie on Eccleston in the time war. The time war is a big event in Dr Who we never actually saw, happening after the 1996 TV movie but before the series comeback in 2005.
Just imagine that. The battle scenes with Daleks and Timelords, all wiped out at the end apart from our Doctor. And at the very end, Eccleston could either walk away so the 2005 series is later on, or he could detect living plastic activity and run off, like he's off to meet Rose in episode 1.

I think that's a brilliant idea for a movie idea. I started watching Doctor Who with the new series and have never seen anything from the older series (or read any of the novels), so I had, for the longest time, just thought that the Time War was something that had happened before the first Doctor Who came out. It wasn't until a couple of months ago, when reading a Doctor Who fan comic, that I realized this was not the case. It's kind of crazy that something so big as having his planet destroyed along with all of the other Timelords (Etc) wasn't shown or anything. I mean, when I assumed it happened before the first Doctor Who started, it made sense that it wasn't shown, but such a big activity happening in between Doctors and series seems weird to me. That has to've had such a huge impact on the Doctor, which I am only seeing shadows of since I have not seen any of the older series, that I think it needs some serious airtime. And what better way than to bring it to the big screen?

Of course, the movie may never happen, but the idea of it makes me smile.

You know you do have a very valid point. I can add this to your idea: What if it opened with David Tennant and the movie is actually a re-telling of the Time War, and Chris is in it too. I believe that we Whovians want to see the actual story on the War, I do. I have so many different scenarios running around my head at a 1000m mph. Ten could be telling the story to one of his companions...Donna maybe, and then we see the flashbacks and such. Damn, that would be bloody brilliant wouldn't it.

I love both men as the Doctor, but am more partial I guess to Tennant. I do wish Chris would have lasted a bit-ish longer. I have watched Who since the Third incarnation. I adored Tom Baker and Peter Davison. Oh well, guess we'll have to wait see.

Ooh, both new doctors. I like the idea. I like both as the Doctor, but am definitely more partial to Tennant. And I'm always up for more Donna! I was so sad when he had to erase her memories and said he couldn't be near her in case it triggered them again. :( She's been my favorite companion so far.

It's going to be weird next season because there's going to be a new Doctor, a new companion, and no Russel T. Davies. ;_; I have faith, though.

Wouldn't it?! Don't you?! We should start a petition for this as well. They've only started on the script - you know how many times a script gets rewritten? It could easily get changed to this (unless it already is about the Time War and then they wouldn't have to change it at all.) But now I'm rambling, so I'll stop. >.>
