Every year my mom and I watch White Christmas. I love it. Other movies are randomly watched, but it's just not Christmas without a White Christmas.

Just dropping a note to say "Hi" to everyone. I've been doing good. Went to Markoff's Haunted Forest for the first time with [livejournal.com profile] lillbet and [livejournal.com profile] aforestgrew. It was fun. Kind of like Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens except in the woods. Been hanging out with some of my coworkers as well which is nice. :)

My Graphic Novel Book Club is still alive, though we seemed to have lost one of our two members. Tuesday we talked about the first Sandman novel and our adult librarian came as well. Trying to find more ways to advertise it (without having to pay money). I do find it amusing that we've been an all girl group so far.

Decided that I'm going to dress up as a Star Trek officer for Halloween. Hopefully other people will be dressing up at work, too, like they said they would. Either way it will be fun. I have the tricorder app on my phone and can make the communicator noise, so I think I'll have fun playing with that throughout the day.

Other than that, I've just been chilling and counting down the days to Christmas. I'm going home for the week before Christmas and can't wait to see people. :)

Found out yesterday that a federal shutdown means that the library will shut down as well which means I may or may not be paid during that time. Thanks DC for informing your employees of this fact in a timely manner. -_-

Have a working phone once more. My mom's old blackberry. This means that I may or may not have your contact info. Feel free to let me know what it is, or just remember not to be offended when I reply to texts/calls with "Who are you?" <3

We have a patron whose name is R. McKay.

It's the little things.

Just a quick FYI. I lost my phone today. ;_; So, if you try to call or text it, don't be surprised when I don't answer.

That is all.

Hello all. Just wanted to let everyone know that I am alive and well in Florida now. I've been enjoying watching Doctor Who episodes with my dad. (We just finished watching the last ep of season 2.)

An F!S to TYFYT:

As some of y'all know, I'm going home (Florida) for the summer. I have a Wii up here and was wondering if anyone would like to borrow it while I am gone, since I do not need it in FL. I have one remote with nunchuck, the Wii Sports game, two dance pads with a Disney dance game (with remixes of classic Disney songs), a microphone and karaoke game, and the Wii Fit. I like spreading gaming love and feel sad that they'll just be boxed up until I come back. Comment if you would be interested using them for the summer.

So I bought a 2 liter of Coke yesterday when I went grocery shopping. When I had my first glass of it, I thought it tasted off, but figured it was just a weird combination of tastes from the Coke and what I was eating. I tried to drink some more today and it still tasted different. I was examining the bottle, not sure what I was expecting to find, when I saw that there was Hebrew writing on the bottle top. The label was entirely English and nothing else seemed out of the ordinary, so I was really puzzled about finding Hebrew on my Coke. I did a search online to see what I could find and this little bit of information is what I found:

In April of 1985, the Coca-Cola company announced that it was re-formulating its flagship carbonated drink, which to the horror of Coke fans everywhere, included a switchover to high fructose corn syrup (HFCS). Soon, the rest of the soft drink industry followed suit, and the classic taste of cane sugar-based sodas became practically extinct. Today, only a few small boutique soft drink companies still make sodas with refined cane sugar (or sucrose, made from sugar beets) a costly ingredient when compared with HFCS — but true carbonated beverage connoisseurs know and can tell the difference, as corn syrup has a characteristically cloying sweetness when compared to refined sugar. For nostalgic Coca-Cola lovers, unless you live in a foreign country that classic taste is but a distant memory.
Every late March and early April, for the two to three weeks leading up to the celebration of the Jewish Passover holiday season in the United States, Coke fans living in major metropolitan areas with large Jewish populations get their Real Thing, if only for that brief fleeting period. According to Jewish law, nothing made with chametz (any of a number of proscribed cereals and grains, including corn) during passover may be consumed — so in order not to lose sales from observant Jews during that eight day period, a small number of Coca-Cola bottlers make a limited batch of the original Coke formulation, using refined sugar. Needless to say, stocks run out quickly and fans of Passover Coke have been known to travel many miles seeking out supermarkets with remaining caches.

[livejournal.com profile] lila_blue_b and I have started a fic challenge over at [livejournal.com profile] tarsus_iv_fic. We're looking for prompts for the next two weeks and then we'll be hoping that people claim them and produce stuff. So if you have an idea for a prompt that has to do with Tarsus IV, come on over and comment with your prompt! Interested in art instead of fic? That's okay! Our challenge is open to fics, art, fanvids, etc.

This amuses me way more than it should...

And this makes me happy and wish it were here already.

Invictus is playing at the Arlington Cinema & Drafthouse on Monday for $1 and I was wondering if anyone would be interested in going? It starts at 7:00pm (doors open at 6:30) and is 133 minutes long. The Drafthouse has food you can order to eat while you watch (menu is available on their website) or we could eat before/after the movie as well. (Though I am unfamiliar with restaurant choices nearby.)

We would need to be there before 6:30 to make sure we can get a ticket. I don't remember if we each have to physically be there when buying tickets are if someone can buy tickets for everyone. People with knowledge?

It is also playing on Tuesday (for $2) and Wednesday (for $3) at the same time, if one of those days is better.

Tickets must be bought with cash, but you can pay for food/drink inside the theater with a credit/debit card (or cash.)

Invictus stars Morgan Freeman as Nelson Mandela and Matt Damon as Francois Pienaar, the South African rugby team coach. Both have Oscar nominations for their roles in the movie.

Computer!

I have a new computer! \o/ Got a simple netbook and have been messing with it all night. I can now function a bit more properly. XD Just wanted to share the good news.
remadi: (srs bsns)
So apparently it's not just my harddrive that is the problem and I have to get a new computer. Not sure when that will happen. Just wanted to write a quick note to share the news. I'm using my school computers every couple of days to check email and stuff.

Just wanted to let everyone know that my computer is currently broken. According to the Best Buy guy, my hard drive failed. This means that I will be without a personal computer for a week or so. I'll be walking down to my school to check emails and continue to work on applying for jobs (know anyone in the DC area hiring?), but I'll probably be scarcer than usual on LJ until I get my computer fixed. If you need to contact me, feel free to call or text if you have my number or you can pm me on LJ as I will get notification of it in my email and I can check that on my BlackBerry. (Have I mentioned yet how much I love my BB?)

In other news, HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY!!
